NEW DELHI: Pakistan should not feel insulted by the fact its players were ignored in Indian Premier League's auction, as many players from other Day in Pics: January 21 nations were also overlooked, a top Indian official said.
There has been anger in Pakistan over Tuesday's IPL3 auction, in which not even one of the 11 available Pakistani players received bids from the eight competing IPL franchises.

"The differing needs of the franchises and availability of the players played a large role in whom the teams bid for," said N. Srinivasan, owner of the Chennai Super Kings and secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Effigies of IPL commissioner Lalit Modi were burnt in various cities of Pakistan while the speaker of lower house had stopped a parliamentary delegation from traveling to India in protest.
The auction saw 66 international players available for just 11 slots, with West Indies' Kieron Adrian Pollard joining the Mumbai Indians after attracting an undisclosed fee, exceeding his price of $750,000 per season.
"There were 55 cricketers who must have been disappointed with the auction," Srinivasan said. "I do not think one should look at the nationality of the cricketers at all here.
"The franchisees are paying good money for the team as well as the players. They have the right to pick the players they want. After all, it is their money.
"If you look at the auction, some very good cricketers such as Ramnaresh Sarwan, Brad Haddin and Graeme Swann did not find any takers. Their ability is not in question here. It is just that the franchisees entered the auction with specific needs."
The BCCI official denied that the cricket board or Indian government blocked the non-selection of Pakistan players, whose national team is the reigning Twenty20 world champions.
"The BCCI has no role. And the choice of the individual team owners should not be mixed up with government policy," he said.
"It is possible that some franchisees could have displayed interest in the Pakistani players and then changed their minds according to their needs."

The Godfather is a crime novel written by American author Mario Puzo (translated in urdu by Mehmood Ahmed Moodi), originally published in 1969 by G. P. Putnam's Sons. It details the story of a fictitious Sicilian Mafia family based in New York City (and Long Beach, NY) and headed by Don Vito Corleone. The novel covers the years 1945 to 1955, and also provides the backstory of Vito Corleone from early childhood to adulthood. It formed the basis for a 1972 film of the same name. Two film sequels, with new contributions made by Puzo, were made in 1974 and 1990. The first and second film are widely considered to be two of the greatest films of all time. The plot deals with a gang war fought between the Corleone family and the other four of the five families of New York. After Don Vito Corleone is shot by men working for drug dealer Virgil The Turk Sollozzo, his two sons, Santino and Michael must run the family business. When Sollozzo murdered, the conflict escalates into a full scale war which results in Santinos death and Michael, despite his wishes, ascending to the head of the family. He slowly becomes more ruthless than his father, even killing his brother in law Carlo Rizzi, who played a part in Santinos murder. After the total elimination of the Tattaglia Family and Barzini Family, Michael sells all his business in New York and makes the Corleone Family a legitimate business in Las Vegas

After nearly 15 years of waiting, Avatar has finally hit the screen. Was it worth it?

Mostly, yes. If you look at it from the point of view that the film has been in development for that long, it may tarnish the accomplishments of Cameron and company a bit, but taken out of context, Avatar is an impressive achievement.

For the first time, I was sucked into another world. The effect was so convincing that I never doubted Pandora existed. I saw the Comic-Con footage, and wasn't that impressed, but that was probably because I was only seeing snippets of the film on a sub-standard screen that wasn't designed for optimal 3-D viewing. in IMAX 3-D, the effects are perhaps the most convincing committed to film thus far.

Yes, it is that time again -- Defcon17 is quickly approaching. If you have been following my twitter stream you already know that I have been down in the CCCKC hackerspace Caves working feverishly to finish some toys/gadgets/hackerstuffs before we leave.

If you plan on being at Defcon this year, try to find either myself (hevnsnt) or Surbo.. We will be posting out locations via twitter, so make sure you are following ihacked on twitter because "Good things come to those who follow i-hacked". :)

I-Hacked will be co-hosting an INVITE ONLY party with the PaulDotCom crew in Skybox 207 on SATURDAY AUG 1st. The party starts immediately after the Podcaster's Meetup, which I suggest you check out as well. (there is some awesome prizes being given away -- so you might as well hit that first anyways)

Also this year our very favorite DJ, DJ Great Scott, has somehow managed to finagle his way to being in charge of the music this year, if you have not already checked out the set-list, it is looking SICK.

By now, pretty much everyone has heard that it is easy to hack into WEP protected networks. As we have seen in our Cracking WEP article, it is terribly easy. (There have been advances in cracking WEP since that article was published, it is even easier now) Yeah, WiFi is inherently insecure, but we need it... Right? Well if you ask your local security guy how you can protect your home WiFi network, surely they will come back and say: "WPA or WPA2 cannot be cracked, use it". They are wrong.

By simply installing a patch to your existing hardware, WPA came in as the "Saving Grace" for wireless networking. It corrected almost every security problem either created or ignored by WEP. However, WPA was not perfect. The method in which WPA initializes its encryption scheme is subject to capture and offline brute force attacks. Consequently, it's actually easier to crack WPA which uses a weak password than it is to crack WEP. This article will walk you through the process of retreiving and cracking a WPA network key.

Mentalism is one of the more impressive types of Magic Trick and the one I’m about to reveal is so easy to learn that you’ll be performing it tomorrow! Or even tonight!

There are two important rules for learning Magic Tricks -

1. Practice before you perform. Get it right. Work out your patter and learn it off by heart.

2. NEVER tell your audience how it was done!

To learn this Magic Trick you only need to remember a few things and develop a ‘patter’; a way to perform it.

You have an audience of at least six, preferably a dozen – ‘though it could be performed for as many as you like – provided you can give them all paper and pencils. You tell them that you are going to project your thoughts into their minds.

They must write down the thought as soon as you tell them to – write down the first thing that comes into their head, without trying to think about it (transmitted thought is fragile and too much of their own brain activity will wipe it out).

“We’ll start,” you tell them, “with an easy one. Get ready to write it down … a single digit number; a number between 1 and 9 – NOW!”

You write on your piece of paper; the number 7.

“Now we’ll try a word. What I want you to write this time, is the name of … a vegetable – NOW!”

You write on your piece of paper; the word CARROT.

“Another word. This time I want you to write down the name of … an animal that lives in the jungle – NOW!”

You write on your piece of paper; the word LION. (Trust me; I know they don’t live in the jungle, but this works!)

“Let’s go back to numbers. This time it is a 2 digit number with two different digits (i.e. not 11 or 22). I want you to write down an odd number between … 10 and 50 – NOW!”

You write on your piece of paper; the number 37

“OK. One more number. Again a 2 digit number, an even number with 2 different digits. I want you to write down an even number between … 50 and 99 – NOW!”

You write on your piece of paper; the number 68.

When everyone has written their last number, you display your paper and get them to compare their answers. More than half the answers will match your ‘prediction’.

Well, not everyone is receptive to thought transference, and for those that are, it is an intermittent thing and they will not receive every thought accurately. Those that thought too much before writing it down may have scrambled the transmitted thought.

Do not repeat this trick for the same audience – when they find you are using exactly the same numbers and words each time, they will smell a rat!

In fact most people under the given conditions will come up with those numbers and words. Why? Dunno. Must be the way the human mind is wired.

Note. When doing the 2 digit numbers, always pause where I put in the 3 dots … as this helps to clear their minds of any number they were thinking of up to that point; they don’t know what you are going to say next, so it blanks the mind.

If you decide only to use the numbers, I would do the single digit last. When you’ve just written down ‘7′, being told to write a 2 digit number, you are going to avoid using 7 again. Moving the 7 to the last slot means there is 68 between it and 37.

To learn this Magic trick all you have to remember is 3 numbers and 2 words. Easy isn’t it? Your victims – sorry, audience – will be spell-bound with amazement.

There are many Magic Tricks you can learn that are just as easy as this to perform – and just as impressive. My own preference is for Magic tricks that can be performed with borrowed objects so that the audience doesn’t suspect that you are using special gimmicks – even though, often, you are.
